What kind of driver's license do I need to drive on Guam?

Accepted Answer

Under Guam law, visitors with a valid license from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, the Philippines, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the EU, Palau, the FSM or the Marshall Islands can drive for 30 days after arrival without an International Driving Permit. A license from a U.S. state is good for 90 days. If your license was issued somewhere else, please check with us before you travel. Please bring your original license. We can't accept a photo on your phone or a photocopy at the counter.

How old do I have to be to rent a car on Guam?

Accepted Answer

Once you turn 18, you can rent a car from us. Some rental companies charge extra for drivers aged 21 to 24, but e-Rent-A-Car Guam doesn't add any age-based fees. When you come in, please bring the main driver's original license.

Question 3

Will I pay more because of my age?

Accepted Answer

No. If you're 18 or older, your age doesn't change what you pay. Many rental companies charge a "young driver" fee for renters aged 21 to 24. We don't, so an 18-year-old pays the same rates as everyone else.

What should I bring when I pick up the car?

Accepted Answer

Please bring the license of the person who will be driving, a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover or Diners) and a passport. Please pay with the driver's credit card. If the driver doesn't have a credit card, you can pay with a card in someone else's name, but an additional driver fee applies. If the driver and the person paying are different people, we'll need to see both passports. We don't accept debit cards or prepaid cards. Can I rent without a credit card?

Yes. Without a credit card, you can still pay in cash as long as you add all three coverage options (CDW, ZDW and NOC) and leave a $150 deposit. The cost of each option depends on the vehicle class and other factors, so please check the Insurance & Coverage page for exact prices.

Which items are included in the rental rate?

Accepted Answer

Except for some package plans, the rate you see includes the car and automobile liability insurance (LP). This insurance covers up to $100,000 per person if you injure someone, up to $300,000 in total per accident, and up to $50,000 per accident for damage to property. If you'd like more protection than that, you can add CDW, ZDW and NOC as options.

Do any rules apply to installing a child seat?

Child seats can only be installed in the back seat. They can't go in the front. Guam law requires a seat that fits your child's age and weight: an Infant Seat from birth to age 1 (up to 9 kg), a Child Seat for ages 1 to 4 (9 to 18 kg), and a Booster Seat for ages 4 to 11 (up to 144 cm tall). For prices, see the Options page. *You'll need to install the seat yourself. When you return the car, please take the seat out and bring it back to the counter. How many seats fit in one car depends on the vehicle class.

Do I have to pay for gas separately?

Accepted Answer

Except for some package plans, you pay for gas. As a rule, the car goes out with a full tank and should come back full. If the tank wasn't full when you picked up the car, just refill it to the level it was at pickup. If you can't refuel or the tank is short, the fuel will be charged at our standard rates. That includes a service fee and costs more than filling up yourself, so please refill before you return the car. Most gas stations on Guam are self-service. Question 9

Do you provide pickup from the airport or my hotel?

We run a free shuttle between hotels in the Tumon area and our store. We don't pick up at the airport, but our store is only about a 10-minute drive from Guam International Airport. If you take a taxi from the airport, we'll give you $15 cashback on your rental. Just show your taxi receipt at the counter when you pay. Sorry, we can't give the cashback without a receipt. When you drop off the car, we'll take you to the airport or your hotel at no cost.

Can the car be delivered to where I'm staying?

Sorry, we don't deliver cars to hotels. The rental agreement has to be completed at our store. If you're staying in Tumon, check the list of hotels served by our free shuttle to and from the store.

Question 11

Where am I allowed to park the car at night?

Accepted Answer

Most hotels on Guam offer free parking, so just use your hotel's lot. There's no need to park on the street. Please don't leave valuables in the car. Keep them with you or store them somewhere that locks.

Question 12

Is the rental car an automatic?

Accepted Answer

If you're not comfortable driving a stick shift, don't worry. Every car we rent is an automatic (AT), with no exceptions. We don't have any manual (MT) cars, so you'll never have to deal with a clutch.

Do I get to choose the model or color of my car?

Accepted Answer

Sorry, we can't take requests for a specific model or color. Reservations are made by class, such as A-Special or A-class, and on the day of your rental we assign one of the models in that class. Even if you have a model in mind, we can't guarantee it. You can see typical models for each class on our Vehicles & Rates page.

Are children counted toward the maximum number of passengers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every child or baby riding in the car counts as one passenger, no matter how young. Seating capacity ranges from 4 to 8 depending on the class. When you choose a class, count any children who need a child seat and pick one with room to spare.

Can I smoke in the rental car?

Accepted Answer

No. All of our cars are non-smoking, and smoking inside the car results in a $250 charge.

What insurance do I get with the rental rate?

Accepted Answer

Every rental includes automobile liability insurance (LP). If you injure someone, it covers up to $100,000 per person and up to $300,000 in total per accident. For damage to property, it covers up to $50,000 per accident. If you'd like protection beyond those limits, CDW, ZDW and NOC are available as separate options.

How much will I have to pay if I have an accident?

Accepted Answer

Every accident comes with a $150 legal processing fee, whatever coverage you have. Without CDW, you pay the full cost of repairing the car. With CDW, your share of the repair bill (covered up to $50,000) is capped at the $1,000 deductible, and adding ZDW takes that $1,000 down to zero. Without NOC, you also pay a non-operation charge: $250 if the car can still be driven, $400 if it can't. Adding coverage is a good idea, just in case.

Can I raise the limits on the liability insurance included in the rate?

Accepted Answer

The limits on the liability insurance included in your rate ($100,000 per person and $300,000 per accident for injuries, and $50,000 per accident for property damage) can't be raised, even for an extra fee. *We've never had an accident that went over these limits. Still, if you'd like extra peace of mind, consider adding CDW, ZDW and NOC.

Question 20

Can I drive a rental car to Ritidian Beach?

Accepted Answer

There have been reports of crimes targeting tourists around Ritidian Beach. The road is rough, so flat tires are a real risk, and in an emergency your phone may have no signal at all. For your safety, please don't drive our cars there. If you'd still like to visit, we recommend joining a local guided tour. It's a much safer option.
